Ramayan privacy policy

AMCRAFTS · App: com.amlabs.ramayan · Last updated: 24 October 2026

This page is the privacy policy for the Ramayan (रामायण) Android app, which contains Goswami Tulsidas's Shri Ramcharitmanas with Hindi meaning. It is published at https://amcrafts.in/Apps/Ramayan/privacy-policy.html.

The short version

Ramayan has no account and does not collect personal information itself. The complete text is built into the app and works offline. Your bookmarks, favourite chapters, reading progress, parayan plan, reading streak and settings are stored only on your phone and are never uploaded by the app. The app is free and shows ads served by Google AdMob — see Advertising.

What Ramayan does not collect

Permissions

PermissionWhy
INTERNET, ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE Only to load ads and Google's consent form. Reading, search and plans need no connection.
POST_NOTIFICATIONS For the optional daily paath reminder. Asked only when you switch the reminder on in Settings. The reminder is scheduled on your phone; no server is involved.
WAKE_LOCK, FOREGROUND_SERVICE Added by Android's WorkManager library, which runs the daily reminder reliably.
AD_ID, ACCESS_ADSERVICES_* Added by Google's ads SDK, to read the advertising identifier and use Android's Privacy Sandbox APIs. Granted at install; never prompted for.

What is stored on your device

All of this stays on the device and is removed when you uninstall the app. If Android backup is enabled on your phone, these settings may be included in your own Google account backup, under Google's terms.

Read aloud

"Read aloud" uses the text-to-speech engine already installed on your phone (for most phones, Google's speech services) with its Hindi voice. Ramayan passes only the verse or meaning being read to that engine and records nothing. How the engine itself works is set by its provider and your phone's settings.

Sharing verses

When you copy or share a verse, it goes only where you choose, through Android's clipboard or share sheet. "Share as image" draws the verse card on your phone, saves it temporarily in the app's private cache folder and hands it to the app you pick; nothing is uploaded by Ramayan.

Advertising

Ramayan shows a banner on its browsing screens and, occasionally, a full-screen ad when you close a chapter you have been reading. There are no ads on the reading screen itself. Ads are served by Google AdMob, a Google LLC service, and the ads SDK in the app sends data to Google directly.

To serve and measure ads, and to prevent ad fraud, Google may collect:

How Google uses this is described at https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

Consent. Where the law requires it — including in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland — the app asks for your consent through Google's consent form before any ad is requested, and Settings → Ad privacy choices lets you change your answer at any time. If consent is not given, ads may be limited or non-personalised.

Your controls. You can reset or delete your advertising ID in your phone's Google settings (Settings → Google → Ads on most phones), which stops it being used for personalised ads.

What advertisers never get from Ramayan. The app does not pass your bookmarks, reading history, plans or settings to the ads SDK, and ad requests carry nothing about which chapter you are reading.

Ratings

The app may show Google Play's own rating card once, after you have used it for a while. That card is run by Google Play, and the app never sees your rating.

Children

Ramayan is a devotional reading app for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. It collects no personal information from anyone, including children.

Sharing of data

Ramayan does not share, sell or transfer any personal information, because it does not collect any. The only data that leaves your phone is what Google's ads SDK sends to Google, as described above.

Changes

Material changes to this policy will be published on this page with an updated date.
